BLUE SISTERS

by Coco Mellors

An easy-to-read, heartwarming story of three adult sisters struggling with the death of their fourth, as well as a portrait of a family plagued by addiction. The character studies are profound, and Mellors’ understanding of the intricate web of feelings and circumstances that make relationships is powerful, meaning you really feel the intricate love between the sisters. At first, I was shocked to read so much tell, rather than show, but Mellors manages to get away with it, and the writing is generally good, sometimes very good, especially toward the end of the book. I’m not sure this novel deserves the amount of hype it’s received, but it’s worth reading.
