BEHIND YOU

by Catherine Hernandez

This book is about many things, all woven into the story a girl growing up when the news is dominated by terrifying reports of attacks by a local rapist. Interestingly, it's told from the POV of her older self while working as a film editor, editing a piece about that time. An unexpected mix of coming-of-age story and whodunit, the novel is sensitively written and thought provoking, as well as a delightful portrait of what it’s like to grapple with your own sexuality in a world clouded by fear, mixed messages and restricted options. Hernandez is an author to be respected.
