THE Fake

by Zoe Whittall

Zoe Whittall is one the most exciting Canadians writing today. The Fake is a tale of three people and a fantastic character study of each. Whittall’s text is inspiring. Every word works hard and brings insight and meaning to the page. No fat, no laziness, but delicious subtle humour, unexpected social commentary, and insightful psychological understanding. I only wish two things. That I hadn’t read the reviews before I read the book, because it deprived me of the joy of suspecting and discovering as I turned the pages. And that the novel wasn’t called The Fake for the same reason.
