YOU ARE HERE
by David Nichols
This is a funny, real, delightful love story by the author of One Day (a fantastic love story). Nichols’ writing is insightful, engaging, and full of humorous detail. Including an interesting male perspective and great descriptions of walking in the English Pennines and Lake District, You Are Here is my kind of romance because the couple in question are older. Both middle aged, disaffected, and in their different ways, dealing with isolation and loneliness, they struggle to come together with the awkward fear and awareness that accumulates with age. Nicholls is excellent at making ordinary, not very appealing people become interesting, and so enabling the reader’s heart go out to them. I love this because it’s a reminder that, if you give anyone enough time and understanding, they generally become interesting and worth loving – as these two discover while they walk.
