THE MOST FUN WE EVER HAD

by Claire Lombardo

I like to be positive and only review books that I want to recommend and I’m sitting on the fence with this one because, in my opinion, it’s overlong with too little plot, but I kept reading because the writing is good, and I am so impressed that it’s from the point of view of SEVEN characters—a challenge that Lombardo meets admirably. She really does manage to put us in the heads of her huge cast, and that’s what drew me in. It’s a slow creep of a story about one family, spanning decades, that explores all aspects of love: parenthood, marriage, and sisterhood, and successfully immerses us in the accompanying mix of affection, guilt, anger, loyalty, rivalry and more.
